What’s best, the Wii, the PS3, or the XBox? The specs tell us one thing, the sales another.
“Best” is a slippery word. To geeks, best is about tangible, measurable features. Best = most complex and advanced. To users and readers best is about “how well does it do its job?”
Authors should always ask themselves “what’s the job of my book, and how well am I doing it?” Not “am I saying enough? Is this clever enough?” but “Am I giving the reader what he wants?”
Nintendo focused on the job — let people have fun — and came up with a creative but lower tech product that trounced the competition.
