“Never use a metaphor, simile, or other figure of speech which you are used to seeing in print.”
Metaphors, similes, and figures put pictures in the reader’s brain.
Pictures are powerful. Readers remember them, and they can help readers see things in a new way. Once a picture is too familiar it loses its power. Use new, fresh metaphors to create vivid colourful pictures.
